Sandra Dickson

Sandra Dickson (Co-Director/Writer) has co-produced, co-directed and written documentaries for national distribution on PBS, including the critically acclaimed Freedom Never Dies: The Legacy of Harry T. Moore. This 90-minute documentary, which tells the story of the first civil rights leader to be assassinated in this country, was broadcast nationally on PBS in January 2001 and was winner of the 2001 Erik Barnouw Award for Outstanding Historical Documentary. Her other works include Giving Up the Canal, Campaign for Cuba, Last Days of the Revolution and Deciding Who Dies. These documentaries have been distributed by PBS Video and in the case of Deciding Who Dies, by PBS Adult Learning. Likewise, several of these documentaries have been distributed internationally. Sandra Dickson has received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, the North Carolina Humanities Council, Freedom Forum, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and was a recipient of the Don Seigel Montage Award for Outstanding Film Direction by a Female. She is Co-Director of The Documentary Institute, The College of Journalism and Communications, The University of Florida.
