Photographer Hartmut Li
Hartmut Li was living with his parents in East Berlin when the
Wall fell in 1989. He opened a small photography studio in his
father's former paint shop. Nineteen years later, Li still works
at the same location. He does studio photography, sells his work
around Berlin, and repairs and sells old cameras. He shoots
primarily in black-and-white film and has a darkroom above his
studio where he prints his own work. Li considers himself lucky.
Unlike many photographers in the city who have to take a second
job, Li has been able to support himself.
