18 PARTICIPANTS

VICTORIA FORTIER -- Hi everyone. I’m Victoria! I am from Ocala. Right now, I’m a sophomore majoring in journalism to pursue a career in the magazine industry. I would really love to write lifestyle pieces! Although I have been to Europe, I have never studied abroad before. I am so excited to learn more about photography and explore Berlin along the way. See you all soon!

MARCUS WILSON -- Hello everybody! I am a third year advertising major with a minor in entrepreneurship from Atlanta. While my focus is not photo journalism, I’ve always been fascinated with the impact that photography has on our modern society. My emphasis in advertising is digital production, so I am looking forward to learning new skills that could help me in my career. I’ve traveled to Europe multiple times but I’ve never visited Germany, so I am very excited about this new adventure.

CHRIS DAY -- Hello! I am a second year history and journalism major from Jacksonville. I've been to Europe a few times and studied abroad last summer for a history program. I love traveling and I have never been to Berlin so I can't wait to experience the culture and history of the city. I am also really looking forward to improving my photography on this trip as it has always been something I've enjoyed.

DARRIEL SANDERS -- Hi everyone! I am junior at UF. I am majoring in public relations with a concentration in women’s studies. I am from Atlanta, Georgia but I was raised in Fort Lauderdale. This study abroad trip will be my first time going out the country so this trip will be a first! I am excited for the memories that await me this summer! I really like video editing but I am looking forward to learning more about photography. I can’t wait to meet everyone going on the trip!

SAM CAMPISANO -- Hi! I'm a first-year history major from the Tampa area. In addition to history, I also have a passion for journalism, and while writing is my forte, I've always wanted to pursue photography. I love learning about different cultures, and I think photography is a great way to do that. Going to Europe has always been a dream of mine, so I can't wait to explore this historical city!

ZHICHUN (SAMARA) BIE -- Hi! I’m Zhichun, you can also call me Samara. I am second year telecommunication production major and studio arts minor. I am from Beijing, China. So I am on a study abroad program while I am studying abroad. I love traveling and I’ve been to Europe before. But this is my first time going to Germany so I am very excited about the trip! I also like photography and meeting new people while traveling. I believe this trip is going to be amazing! Can’t wait to see you all!

STEPHANIE STRICKLAND -- Hello everyone! My name is Stephanie Strickland and I am a first year journalism student. I enjoy incorporating photography into my work because of the impact a single photo can have on the value and design of a story. Outside of the classroom I enjoy mountain climbing and I have hiked over 10 miles of the Appalachian Trail. This trip will be my first trip outside of the continental United States and I am excited for the opportunity to learn photography while gaining a cultural experience.

KELLEY MARTIN -- Hello! I am a junior majoring in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology on the Pre-OT track. I’m originally from Miami and moved to Gainesville to try to figure out what exactly I wanted to do in life. I have a huge passion for photography and love to travel any chance I can so having the chance to study abroad in Berlin sounds like an amazing opportunity to pick back up on a passion I have let drift away from me. I am excited and nervous about being pushed out of my comfort zone, and I am excited to meet everyone!!

SIMONA RIVERO -- Hello! My name is Simona Rivero, and I am a telecommunication major at the UF J-School. I have never traveled to Europe, so I am excited to make Germany my first stop. I am looking forward to Germany’s beautiful architecture which I have only seen in pictures thus far. Maybe I will pick up a bit of the German language while I’m there. Safe travels, everyone!

TANAE CARTER -- I’m a third year Applied Physiology and Kinesiology major, business administration minor. I hope to attend graduate school after receiving my bachelor’s degree. I’m an aspiring occupational therapist and may possibly open my own practice some day. Traveling is my favorite hobby. I love learning about different cultures and eating all the food. I can’t wait to meet everyone and explore a different country together!

SAMANTHA SCRIBANO -- Hey Guys! I am a freshman here at the University of Florida and am currently still an exploratory student.  I’m from St. Petersburg and have lived there all my live with a consistent interest in travel wherever I can get when it comes to Europe. I have always been drawn to art and photography and see this as an amazing opportunity to pursue my passion and entertain my current attraction to PR as a potential major and career pathway. Along with PR, I will likely pursue a minor in Spanish as well. I have additionally never been to Germany and am more than happy to join this group!

LOGAN MCNEER -- Hello everyone! I am a sophomore nursing major who loves learning about other cultures. Photography has always been a hobby of mine, so I am excited to learn more about photojournalism while also exploring Europe for the first time! I’m originally from the small town of Winter Haven, Florida, and I’ve never traveled out of the States. However, out of the places I have traveled to, Colorado has been my absolute favorite… But I’m sure Germany will be close competition! I can’t wait to see what amazing experiences this trip will give.

BRIA EVERETT -- Hi everyone! My name is Bria Everett. I am from Tampa. I currently am a junior in the j-school at UF majoring in journalism-sports media specialization with a minor in sports management. My hope is become a sports reporter. ASHLEY LASARSKI --  Hello everyone! I am a sophomore currently studying journalism and preparing to pursue an additional major in English. I am from Winter Park, which is a slightly smaller town just outside of Orlando. I have always enjoyed writing, but photography is another recent interest that I pursued last semester during the intro level photojournalism course. Although I love travel and have explored much of the U.S., this study in Berlin will be my first time venturing abroad. I hope to expand my photography skills and portfolio, while also getting to know Germany and all of you!

CHRISSY VOLTOLINE -- I'm a sophomore majoring in sports and media journalism. I have played sports my entire life which is why I want to pursue a career that revolves around them. My dream is to become a sports reporter, but I have been dabbling in all parts of the industry including writing, producing and broadcasting. I am excited to add photojournalism to that list! I have been to Germany when I was six, but I'm ready to return and apply all of the knowledge I have learned since then. I can't wait to meet you all.

STEPHANIE GONZALEZ -- Hey all! I'm a sophomore majoring in Public Relations with a concentration in Political Science. I'm originally from Miami, Florida and I am half Mexican and half Cuban. I am very passionate about feminism and finding solutions to gender inequality issues. I am currently involved in She's The First, Model United Nations, and Minority Pre-legal Honor Society. I love traveling and am super excited about doing my first study abroad trip.

IMANI BRYANT -- Hi folks! I am a senior BFA dance major. I look forward to exploring the potential creative research possibilities through the power of one camera. New environment, new culture -- where do the possibilities end? I look forward to being fully immersed in this amazing opportunity! Best wishes!

GREGORY FLOREZ -- Hallo! I’m a third-year journalism major from Eagle Lake, Florida. I’m a bit late to the show, but what I lack in punctuality I make up for in unapologetic enthusiasm. When I’m not in the library studying, I’m either reading, drawing or shopping for obscure vinyl at the local record shop. This will be my first time abroad, and I am excited for the opportunity. Berlin is such a fascinating city. To be able to document it with photographs is simply thrilling. See you soon! Bis später!

DARON DEAN -- This will be my third time as the teaching assistant. I am excited to meet everyone and help further your love for photojournalism! I teach Advanced Photojournalism I on campus and Multimedia Writing online. I live in St. Augustine and am working on a MFA at SCAD. I’m a Gator. While at UF I worked for the Alligator, The Sun, the Anchorage Daily News and The Dallas Morning News. I worked 10 years at The St. Augustine Record. Now I’m a student, and teacher, and photographer.

JOHN FREEMAN -- I'm the professor taking the group to Berlin. This photo is from my first experience living in Germany, when I was in the second, third and fourth grades in Rodenbach, near Ramstein Air Force Base. (I've grown some since then.) My father was later assigned to Berlin, where I graduated from high school.  I'm a real sucker for nostalgia, and look forward to returning to this fascinating city for my 14th study-abroad trip. My family thinks that red hat belonged to my twin sister, but no one remembers why I'm wearing it.
